The configuration of the pilot plant at BCN Concerie has been completed: new sensors, an additional filtration stage, and an upgraded monitoring system are supporting ReVOC4LIFE as it moves into the data acquisition and analysis phase.

Following the start-up of the experimental plant announced in recent months, the ReVOC4LIFE project is now entering a new operational phase.
At BCN Concerie in Santa Croce sull’Arno, the pilot plant has been completed in its current configuration and is now fully operational. The work carried out over the past few months has made it possible to further refine the system, with improvements to both the treatment line and the instrumentation used for process monitoring and control.
Among the upgrades implemented is the addition of an intermediate filtration stage, designed to improve flow management within the plant and enable even more controlled experimental testing.

At the same time, the sensor system has been upgraded and expanded, with instruments dedicated to measuring the main process parameters. Flow rates, operating conditions and flow characteristics can now be monitored while the plant is running, allowing useful data to be collected for the subsequent assessment of its performance.
From plant development to data
This is the most important step in the current phase: the plant is no longer simply a prototype to be fine-tuned, but an experimental platform for collecting real-world operating data.
Monitoring and data acquisition will make it possible to observe the system’s behaviour under different operating conditions and to assess the effectiveness of the solutions developed within the ReVOC4LIFE project.

The project was conceived with the aim of demonstrating a sustainable solution for reducing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the tanning district, combining resource recovery with a circular economy approach. One of its key elements is the use of suitably treated KEU as an adsorbent material, alongside solvent recovery and the reuse of process water in a closed-loop system.
A plant that can be observed, measured and controlled
The current phase also provides an opportunity to test the entire monitoring and supervision chain.
The instrumentation installed on the plant, together with the control system, makes it possible to monitor key parameters and translate what is physically happening within the plant into data that can be collected, compared and analysed. Data collection therefore plays an essential role: the measurements obtained during operation will make it possible to quantitatively assess the system’s behaviour and provide the information required for the subsequent stages of project analysis.
ReVOC4LIFE had already envisaged a dedicated platform for the collection, processing and visualisation of process data, developed by Compolab, specifically designed to monitor operating parameters and transform data from the plant into meaningful information for analysis.
START UP THE PLANT!

Today, ReVOC4LIFE is therefore entering its most tangible phase.
The plant is ready.
The instrumentation is up and running.
The data is coming in.
And it is precisely through this data that it will be possible to measure the performance of the solution developed by the project under real operating conditions and assess its potential for application on an industrial scale.
Now it really begins: START UP THE PLANT!
